His rags-to-riches story began while he was in the care of the Barnardo's charity, for which he hopes to raise 500 pounds. He was a friend and favourite designer of Princess Diana - her personal Christmas cards and letters are among items he's donating for auction, along with a Dynasty script signed by Joan Collins.
