During a carnival celebration, Marc Leyendecker, who is already heavily intoxicated, witnesses his wife Johanna being murdered at home on the phone. At the scene of the crime, police officers Anneliese Deckert and Daniel Winter are confronted with a gruesome sight. The perpetrator stabbed the school inspector multiple times with a kitchen knife.
