Three U.S. service members have been killed in action and five more have been seriously wounded in military operations against Iran, the U.S. military said Sunday. It comes as Israel launched a new wave of strikes in Tehran as it continued to hit targets in Iran a day after the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed. NBC News' Richard Engel reports from Tel Aviv. As the U.S., Israel and Iran trade strikes in the Middle East, the conflict is threatening to explode into a much wider regional conflict. Iran is retaliating against U.S. allies like Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. NBC News' Keir Simmons reports from Dubai. Iran has announced that a three-man leadership council will take control of the country following the death of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The council will try to maintain control of Iran until a new supreme leader is chosen. NBC News' Raf Sanchez reports. U.S. officials say three American service members were killed in action in Kuwait in the military operation against Iran. Five others were seriously injured. The troops were part of a sustained unit in Kuwait. NBC News' Courtney Kube has the latest. More than 1,500 flights to the Middle East have been cancelled as the military operation against Iran causes worldwide travel disruptions. Travelers from Lebanon to India and even Germany have been impacted. Some major airports in the Middle East were forced to shut down after Iran fired missiles and drones into the gulf. NBC News' Valerie Castro has the latest. Oil prices surged and stock futures plummeted on Sunday night amid growing concerns linked to the U.S. and Israel's attack on Iran, which is almost certain to impact the flow of oil in the Middle East. NBC News' Christine Romans reports. Two people were killed and 14 others injured after a shooter opened fire in Austin's busy entertainment district. Law enforcement officials tell NBC News the gunman was wearing a shirt with an Iranian flag theme, but so far investigators have not linked the mass shooting to the military conflict in the Middle East. NBC News' Priscilla Thompson reports. Los Angeles is home to the largest Iranian-American community in the United States. Many of those families came to the country after the Iranian Revolution. Now, after the death of the ayatollah, many are anxiously watching and waiting to see what will happen next in the country. NBC News' Morgan Chesky reports.
