Burton gets a lead on picking up some of the city's legal matters, which can help the firm monetarily, but it conflicts with other duties at the law firm. Specifically, he sues a man to remove a nuisance aviary in his small back yard. And a mother who has been physically abused seems to feed her son with lies about his father, so he's afraid of him.
