On the way from Moscow to his new duty station, young investigator Vsevolod Pashin becomes an unwitting witness to a car setup. He stands up for the injured Krasnov. And when Krasnov is found dead, he becomes a suspect. The case is being investigated by the homicide department of the Zavolzhsky District Police Department of the city of Ensk: an investigative team consisting of senior investigator, Major Evgeny Churilov, Captain Ilya Verkhovsky, operative Eduard Krasavchek and forensic expert Tatiana Sokolova. Criminologist photographer Grigory Malinin, nicknamed Pykha, intervenes in the investigation. As a result, Seva stays in Ensk, and Pykha becomes his personal assistant!
