Summer 1980. Moscow is preparing for the Olympics. The entire KGB and Ministry of Internal Affairs are deployed to maintain law and order. But despite all the measures taken, a series of high-profile robberies occurs in the capital. Among them is the brazen theft of an old masterpiece from the Museum of Fine Arts. Investigator Alexei Stavrov must return the painting at any cost before the Olympics, as the country's reputation is at stake. However, the case turns out to be far more complex than expected: its origins lie in the events of 1945, and artists and scientists, members of the "limitchiki" (traditional criminals) and foreign tourists, thieves in law and men in uniform are all implicated.
